Our Historical Room houses the town of Shirley Massachusetts histories and genealogies. We also have a collection of books donated to the library by the Shirley Shaker community when they left the town in the early 20th century. The Hazen Memorial Library Historical Room contains artifacts from Shirley's long history, including art, photographs, farming tools, a spinning wheel and more.
How to Access the Historical Room
You may visit the Historical Room anytime during regular library hours. See a librarian at the front desk, leave your driver's license on deposit, and enter the date and time in the log book. Backpacks, bags, tote bags or purses are not allowed in the Historical Room. The librarian will unlock the room and help you to locate the items you need. The materials in the Historical Room may only be used inside the library. A photocopier is located just outside the room for a small per-copy fee. When you complete your research, see the librarian at the front desk to retrieve your driver's license and sign out of the log book.
We will be happy to conduct brief reference research for you, if you are unable to visit in person. Phone the library at 978-425-2620, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are not able to conduct extensive family history or detailed research projects.
