Parenting Collection

Information for Parents and Caregivers

The library has a circulating collection of current books, magazines, videos and other resources on subjects of interest to parents. The Parenting Collection is located in the Children’s Room, and items can be searched and requested in the library catalog.

The Children’s Room has several kits designed to help parents and young children cope with various life events, such as Moving, Having a New Baby, Feelings, Going to the Doctor, Death, Divorce, and Going to Sleep. Kits may be checked out for 3 weeks at a time.

For homeschoolers and teachers, the library has “Discovery Kits” in subject areas appropriate for middle school. Subjects include: Africa, Earth Science, Poetry, Rivers, Space, Ancient Civilizations, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Biomes, Early Humans, Egypt, Explorers, Islam, Mapping the World, Medieval Times, Mythology, Nations of the World, and Volcanoes. These kits may be checked out for 3 weeks at a time.

Sylvan Learning Book Adventure Book Adventure is a FREE reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children create their own book lists from over 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
Reading Rockets Reading Rockets offers a wealth of reading strategies, lessons, and activities designed to help young children learn how to read and read better. Our reading resources assist parents, teachers, and other educators in helping struggling readers build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
Zero to Three ZERO TO THREE is a national, nonprofit organization that informs, trains, and supports professionals, policymakers, and parents in their efforts to improve the lives of infants and toddlers.
