Welcome to Hazen Library
Hurry, hurry! The Friends' raffle is still going on - buy your tickets SOON before the drawing on December 20th! The wall hanging is on display in the lobby, come down to see it and take a chance on winning this beautiful work by long time Shirley resident, Inge Sweeney.
A wall hanging featuring colorful parrots was hooked by Ingeborg (Inge) Sweeney (1935-2013) and donated to the Friends to raise money for the library. Inge was born in Germany and immigrated to the USA to marry Bernard Sweeney whom she met while he was stationed in Germany in the early 1960's. After his retirement from the Army, they settled on Center Rd. Bernard later served as Veteran's Agent for the Town of Shirley. Inge learned to hook rugs from Sally Newhall, a native of Shirley and a well-known rug hooking teacher. The rug/wall hanging that is being raffled was hooked by Inge under Sally's tutelage. It is a wonderful example of the high degree of perfection that Inge demanded of herself.
An avid patron of the Hazen Memorial Library, Inge would be honored to have a piece of her workmanship offered to raise funds for the library she loved so well.
Tickets are $5.00 each for a chance to win this one-of-a-kind piece of art that is valued at over $500. Drawing will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 pm.
